Occupational Safety & HealthAnnouncements
IntroductionThe Occupational Safety & Health program started in 1999 at UAA. The program grew out of a safety focus in the Technology program (TECH 415, TECH 416, and TECH 402) and its faculty, as well as demand in the Alaskan industry for trained safety technicians. The program will have it's first AAS graduates this academic year and we have seen tremendous grow in interest and enrollments. A two year, Associate of Applied Science degree is currently offered. A new one year certificate is being considered and a new B.S. in Technology option in OSH or HS&E is being designed. We are also reviewing the effects of Environmental responsibilities becoming an integral part of an OSH professional's responsibilities. In January, a DACUM session was held to review the tasks and training now required of OSH personnel related to environmental tasks and related management systems.
